Worried about Willow removal?

25 Mar 2014

Community members are invited to attend a willow removal public information session on Monday 31 March at 5:30pm at the Kyneton Mechanics Institute.

Hosted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) in partnership with the Upper Campaspe Landcare Network, the information session will discuss ongoing work focused on willow removal and revegetation along the Campaspe River at Kyneton.

“Efforts by the Campaspe River Walk Committee and VicRoads in recent years have led to localised replacement of willow trees with native vegetation,” North Central CMA Project Manager Angela Gladman said.

“Now the North Central CMA’s Victorian government funded Caring for the Campaspe project is planning further willow removal works to improve the health of the Campaspe River.

“In mid April 2014, contractors are targeting a two-kilometre section along Burton Avenue, between the Calder Freeway and Mineral Springs Reserve, where willows will be cut and their stumps painted with an approved herbicide to stop re-growth before being burnt on-site.

"The site will be revegetated in 2015 to re-establish good native habitat for aquatic and terrestrial wildlife,” said Ms Gladman.

“Many landholders in the Kyneton area have expressed their interest in becoming involved in the Caring for the Campaspe project,” Ms Gladman explained.

“The public information session will inform the local community of the upcoming works and consult with them about future plans.”

Further information about the Caring for the Campaspe project is available from the North Central CMA website (www.nccma.vic.gov.au).

Public information session attendees are requested to RSVP to the North Central CMA on 03 5448 7124 or info@nccma.vic.gov.au by Thursday 27 March.
