Waterbird secrets to be revealed at CMA forum

16 Apr 2014

The secret lives of central Victoria’s waterbirds will be revealed in a forum to be hosted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA).

The event, open to anyone who’d like to know more about the region’s remarkable waterbirds, will also be an opportunity for the community to meet wildlife experts.

The forum takes place from 10.00 am to 3.30 pm Saturday May 10 at the Koondrook Cricket Club in Koondrook and is the third in the North Central CMA’s Water Science Forum series which has previously seen events focusing on fish and frogs.

Cass Davis, North Central CMA’s Waterwatch Coordinator, said the popular series had proven to be a rare opportunity for community members to meet with experts and hear about the region’s rich waterway life.

“In the two forums we’ve run so far, participants have been captivated by the scientists’ presentations and knowledge, I’m sure this coming event will be no different.

“The experts will provide us with an overview of the waterbirds in north central Victoria, they’ll also reveal the inside story of how they go about studying these unique creatures, and share some handy tips on identification,” Ms Davis said.

“Everyone attending will also have exclusive access to the launch of the Gunbower Forest Bird app, developed by the North Central CMA’s Living Murray program.”

Attendance at the forum is free and open to all. A bus will leave Bendigo train station at 8.00 am and return to the station afterwards. Morning tea and lunch are also provided.

For travel and catering purposes those wishing to attend are asked to RSVP by Friday 8 May 2014 to the North Central CMA on 03 5448 7124 or info@nccma.vic.gov.au.

The forums are part of North Central CMA’s Waterwatch program and are funded by the Victorian Government’s Healthy Waterways Program with the objective of improving the biodiversity and natural resource management skills of landholders and communities across the region.

The event is held in partnership with The Gunbower Forest Key Asset Protection project, The Living Murray program and North Central Landcare.
