Water Science Forum to focus on Native Fish

14 Mar 2013

Are you interested in the science of native fish behaviour, their life cycles or tips on how to identify them?  The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is hosting the 2013 Water Science Forum: A focus on Native Fish in Cohuna on Friday 22 March 2013.

The forum is being held from 9.30 am – 3.30 pm in the Cohuna Memorial Hall, 23 - 25 King Edward St, Cohuna, and follows the success of last year’s science forum in Newstead.

Ms Cass Davis, North Central CMA’s Waterwatch Coordinator said the forum is part of Gunbower Island Week.  “We have secured four expert speakers who will provide attendees with a fascinating insight into monitoring and pit tagging, identifying native fish and how they responded to a recent blackwater event in the Edward Wakool system.

“More information about local fish populations, including research across Gunbower Creek, Pyramid Creek and lower Loddon River will also be discussed.”

Ms Davis said attendees will have the opportunity to have their say on what needs to be done to ensure strong native fish populations into the future.

The forum is free and open to anyone who wants to attend.

To assist with travel, a bus is leaving the Bendigo train station at 8.00 am sharp and returning after the forum.   Morning tea and lunch will be provided.

RSVP by Tuesday 19 March  2013 (for travel and catering purposes) to the North Central CMA on 03 5448 7124 or info@nccma.vic.gov.au

The event is part of North Central CMA’S Waterwatch program, funded through the Victorian Water Group Investment Framework.   The project aims to improve the uptake, knowledge, skills and engagement of landholders and communities of the North Central CMA region on sustainable biodiversity and natural resource management.

The event is being held in partnership with The Living Murray program and the Gannawarra Shire.
