Victorian Landcare Grants Allocated

13 Nov 2012

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has allocated $336,366.50 to eighty four Landcare groups across north central Victoria with funding from the 2012-13 Victorian Landcare Grants.

Minister for Environment and Climate Change Ryan Smith congratulated the successful applicants and thanked them for their ongoing commitment to Landcare and the community.

"The Victorian Government values Landcare for its engagement with the community, collaboration with the Government and business, and most of all – for protecting and enhancing our environment.

"A cleaner and healthier Victoria depends on all of us – government, business, and individuals – being aware of how our actions impact our environment and each of us playing our part," Mr Smith said.

Mr David Clark, North Central CMA Board Chairman, said the Victorian Government provided the funding for local Landcare groups to finance projects that will benefit the health of the region’s land, water and biodiversity.

“Groups will be able to undertake important projects with smaller grants allocated to assist groups maintain or build their capacity; a great result for the groups, the community and the environment.

“The funding will support a range of natural resource management activities including revegetation, habitat protection and pest control, field days and educational programs, all initiated and carried out by local community groups.

“The North Central CMA continues to provide as much financial and other support to the 163 Landcare and other community groups in the North Central CMA region,” said Mr Clark.

Three types of grants were available through the 2012-13 Victorian Landcare Grants program: Start up grants for groups and networks of $1,000; Group maintenance grants of $500 (a grant covering the basic costs of maintaining a group) and Project grants of up to $20,000.

Groups were encouraged to submit applications to the North Central CMA which were assessed against funding guidelines and natural resource management priorities.
