Valuing the environment - have your say

10 May 2012

Are you interested in your local environment?  Do you have a special place?  How does your special place compare to other environmental values across the region?

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is seeking your views on the most valued environmental assets identified in the draft 2012-18 North Central Regional Catchment Strategy.

According to David Clark, Chair of the North Central CMA Board, the strategy will support CMA and community environmental work across the region.

“This strategy will be important for developing projects and seeking funding that protects and enhances both regional and community scale environmental assets.

“In 2009 the North Central CMA sought community views through a series of nine local meetings about the most valuable environment assets across the region.  Nearly 500 unique and valued assets were identified from these meetings.

The Regional Catchment Strategy identifies priorities and actions for these assets, which we now need to validate with our catchment community,” David said.

The natural assets of waterways, wetlands, native flora and fauna, and soils are all a part of this strategy.

We encourage people to come and share their view on the priority sites identified in their patch at one of ten planned community meetings (see below).

The meetings will be held throughout May and June 2012.  A light supper will be provided at 7pm followed by presentations and discussion from 7.30-9.00pm.
