The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has allocated $318,320 of the Victorian Government’s $3.38 million Second Generation Landcare grants for this financial year.  More than seventy five community groups throughout North Central Victoria region will benefit from the funding with the announcement of the successful applicants.

Coordinated by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA), the grants will support a range of natural resource management activities initiated and carried out by local communities.

North Central CMA board Member Stuart McLean, who chaired a panel that assessed grant applications said, "We are grateful to the Victorian Government for providing this funding for local landcare groups to finance projects that will benefit the health of the region's land and waterways. The Second Generation Landcare Grants program demonstrates the ability of government, the North Central CMA and local community groups to work in partnership towards the improved management of our natural resources.

“The Second Generation Landcare program, which began in 2000, supports projects that range from revegetation, habitat protection and pest control activities to nature walks, study tours and other educational programs.”

Three types of grants were available: Group Maintenance grants of $500 (a grant covering the basic costs of maintaining a group); Promotion and Education grants between $1000 and $2000 (for projects such as workshops, publications and field trips); and Major Integrated Project grants of up to $10,000 (for on-ground works).   Projects are assessed against funding guidelines and natural resource management priorities as determined by the North Central CMA.

North Central CMA Chief Executive Officer Damian Wells continued, “With changes to Landcare over recent times, the North Central CMA in partnership with local government continues to provide valuable support to over 185 Landcare and other community groups in the region, assisting them to be involved in natural resource management and to work together to improve the condition of our natural landscape” said Mr Wells.
