Rochester Flood Management Plan in focus

19 Jul 2012

A second community meeting to discuss the Rochester Flood Management Plan is being held at the Rochester Racecourse and Recreation Reserve (Four R’s) on Thursday 2 August 2012 from 6.30 pm.

Hosted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) in conjunction with the Shire of Campaspe, the meeting will be an opportunity for the community to provide their comments and feedback on the accuracy of flood modelling and further suggestions on potential flood mitigation options for investigation.

Ms Camille White from the North Central CMA said this meeting follows on from a previous community meeting held in February where local knowledge and information was shared, including potential mitigation options for the town.

“We have gathered valuable community information and continue to work with Water Technology, a specialised flood consultancy, in developing a flood model.”

“Results from the flood modelling will be presented at the meeting and I encourage community members to attend.  We are seeking feedback on the accuracy of the flood model with an opportunity to further discuss potential flood mitigation options for investigation.

“The flood model simulates recent flood events, and will be used to inform the development of the plan. When completed, the Rochester Flood Management Plan will determine flood levels and flood extents for a range of flood scenarios and provide information to improve flood warnings and emergency response activities,” concluded Ms White. The Plan is expected to be completed later in the year.

For catering purposes please RSVP to the North Central CMA on (03) 5448 7124 before Monday 30 July.
