Riparian Management Field Day at Vaughan Springs

20 May 2010

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is holding a riparian management field day for the local community along the LoddonRiver, on Tuesday 25 May at the Vaughan Springs Mineral Reserve near Castlemaine between 10am-2pm, which will include a light lunch.

According to Angela Gladman, North Central CMA project manager, the field day is aimed at landholders who want to know more about managing riparian areas on their property and for anyone who is interested to find out what is happening on the upper Loddon.

“The North Central CMA is committed to working with the community to better manage riparian areas.  The field day will help build on their skills and knowledge and provide further information and advice on management techniques, so that landholders are better able to achieve long term results and improve the health of the region’s waterways.”

Topics covered on the day will include: highlighting Indigenous sites along north central waterways, riparian ecology, river health management and gorse, blackberry and rabbit control in riparian areas.  Information regarding incentives available for landowners to protect priority waterways in the area will also be covered.

The North Central CMA is implementing on-ground projects in the upper Loddon catchment, upstream of Cairn Curran Reservoir, to improve some of the region’s most ecologically intact waterways.

The field day is part of the joint Upper Loddon and Campaspe Priority Reaches projects.  The projects receive funding from the Victorian Investment Framework and the High Environmental Return Opportunities - ‘Closing the Loop on Jim Crow Creek’ project.

To register for the field day, phone the North Central CMA reception on (03) 5448 7124 before 4pm Friday 21 May.
