Register quickly for Biological Farming - Field Days

3 May 2013

Landholders interested in biological farming practices are encouraged to register with the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) for two upcoming information days.  The two sessions will be held in Kerang on 7 May and Echuca on 21 May.

Mr Joel Spry, North Central CMA project manager, said the information days are in response to landholders identifying that they would like to know more about biological farming in northern Victoria.

“The Kerang Football Clubrooms will be the venue for the 7 May event from 10 am – 2 pm.  Farmers and other interested people can learn about interpreting the results from recent biological soil sampling and testing on a local farm.  The benefits of biological farming, applying beneficial organisms such as compost, brewing and applying compost tea extractions, soil microbe foods, and many more aspects to biological farming, will be explored.

The Echuca event is being held at Ko-Warra Native Grasses (Echuca West) where the results of recent biological soil samples will be discussed.

“The Echuca West session, again from 10 am – 2 pm, will have a similar focus to Kerang but will also include demonstrations on sampling techniques and other management tools such as refractometer usage, penetrometer, sap pH, soil pH, conductivity and will include taking a biological soil sample in native pasture”, confirmed Mr Spry.
