Regional Landcare Boosted by Funding

22 Dec 2010

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has allocated $299,064 of the $3.332 million available across Victoria through the Second Generation Landcare Grants for the 2010/11 financial year.

With the announcement of the successful applicants and funding allocations, sixty three community groups throughout the North Central Victoria region will benefit from the funding.

Coordinated by the North Central CMA, the funding for local Landcare groups will finance projects to benefit the health of the region's land and waterways.  The funding will support a range of natural resource management activities including revegetation, habitat protection and pest control, field days and educational programs, all initiated and carried out by local community groups.

North Central CMA Chief Executive Officer Damian Wells said, “The North Central CMA continues to provide as much financial and other support for the 160 Landcare and other community groups in the North Central region.  The sixty three groups who have received funding will be able to undertake important natural resource management practices, a great result for the groups and the environment.”

Mr Wells paid tribute to the hard work and commitment of the region’s environmental groups in achieving environmental protection for the greater benefit of the community.

Three types of grants were available through the Second Generation Landcare Grants program: Group Maintenance grants of $500 (a grant covering the basic costs of maintaining a group); Small Project grants of up to $5,000 (for projects such as workshops, publications and field trips); and Major Integrated Project grants of $5,000 to $40,000 (for on-ground works).   Groups were encouraged to submit an application to the North Central CMA which were then assessed against funding guidelines and natural resource management priorities.
