Planting Day Set to Sizzle

1 Sep 2011

A free sausage sizzle will be on offer at a community tree planting day scheduled for Thursday 22 September, from 10 am – 4 pm at the Gunbower Recreation Reserve.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) and the Gunbower Recreation Reserve Committee are running the planting day to enhance the area following the removal of willows along Gunbower Creek at the Reserve.

North Central CMA’s Gunbower Ramsar Wetland Enhancement project officer Britt Gregory said now is the perfect time for planting.  Ms Gregory encourages community members to come along and join in on the day.

“Members of the community can come along for the whole day or just an hour.  Any time will be greatly appreciated.   The Reserve and the surrounding Gunbower Forest, including Gunbower Creek, is internationally recognised as significant and together with the community we are keen to maintain and enhance its natural beauty.

“We will be planting native shrubs as well as establishing an indigenous demonstration garden to beautify the area and to promote native plants to local gardening enthusiasts.  A reminder to please bring a water bottle, wear sturdy shoes and sun-smart clothing,” she added.
