Native grasses short courses open

24 Sep 2012

Would you like to improve your native grass identification skills?  Are you interested in learning more about managing native grasses?  Expressions of interest are now being accepted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) for two native grass identification short courses.

Ms Ashley Beven, Regional Landcare Facilitator with the North Central CMA, said the two-day courses to be held in Bendigo during November will cover identifying features, importance and ecology of Australian grasses.

“We are offering two courses - one catering for professionals working in agriculture and natural resource management and one tailored for farmers, Landcare members and Trust for Nature covenanters. Expressions of interest will only be accepted from people living in the North Central CMA region.

“These interactive courses involve lectures and hands-on experience in the laboratory, followed by a field trip on the second day.  Both will be held at the Bendigo Regional Institute of TAFE, Charleston Road Campus Bendigo.

“We have secured local botanist and ecologist Paul Foreman, who has over 20 years experience in land management and nature conservation in Victoria, to present at both courses.

“Feedback from similar workshops held last year are encouraging with some participants saying they ‘learnt how to confidently identify grasses to a genus level’ with others commenting that the course was ‘superbly organised and executed’, said Ms Beven.

For more information, or to express an interest, please contact the North Central CMA on 03 5448 7124 or email info@nccma.vic.gov.au prior to MONDAY 15 OCTOBER.  Places are strictly limited.

The courses are funded by the Australian Government's Regional Landcare Facilitator project hosted by the North Central CMA, the Victorian Government's Landcare Program and Trust for Nature.
