Landcare Grants Now Open

26 Aug 2009

The North Central Catchment Management Authority is encouraging environmental groups in the region to apply for 2009–10 Second Generation Community Landcare Grants, which are open until 23 October 2009.

This year, the North Central CMA will coordinate the distribution of over $300,000 of the Victorian Government’s $3.38 million Second Generation Landcare Grants. The Victorian Government has provided the funding for local groups to undertake projects that will benefit the health of the region's land and waterways.

“Landcare in North Central Victoria has gone through significant changes recently and we appreciate the State Government’s commitment to supporting Landcare and community initiatives in our region. The Second Generation Landcare Grants Program continues to provide funding for Landcare groups to remain active in their community while undertaking local priority projects” said Damian Wells, North Central CMA Chief Executive Officer.

The grants are available to incorporated community groups that want to improve the condition of their local environment. The types of grants on offer include funding to cover maintenance support of Landcare groups up to $500; promotion and education activities up to $2,000; and up to $10,000 for major integrated projects.

Landcare, Junior Landcare, Community and ‘Friends of’ groups with projects aimed at improving the region’s environment through activities such as weed control, salinity and erosion mitigation, and the protection and improvement of native vegetation are encouraged to apply.  Schools and Local Government are also welcome to apply for a grant in partnership with a community group.

The North Central CMA is hosting three community meetings in September to provide more information, advice and assistance in developing applications:

  • 21 September, KERANG, Memorial Hall, 5pm–6pm
  • 23 September CAMPBELLS CREEK, Community Centre, 7pm–9pm
  • 29 September ST ARNAUD, St Arnaud Shire Hall, 5pm–6pm
