Have your say on reducing flood impacts in Dunolly

24 Jun 2014

The Dunolly community can give feedback on the results of the town’s flood study at a public information session on Wednesday, June 25.

North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) Floodplain Manager Camille White said the information session provided residents with the opportunity to hear about the study firsthand.

“The study has produced detailed flood mapping for Dunolly and investigated a number of potential options for reducing the impact of floods on the town,” Ms White said.

“We encourage residents to take this opportunity to learn about the different flood mitigation options being considered, and to provide us with their feedback.”

Residents can drop by the Dunolly Town Hall between 4pm and 6:30 pm on June 25 to view flood maps and discuss proposed flood mitigation works with staff from the North Central CMA, Central Goldfields Shire Council, SES and the community steering committee, who are leading the project.

Project consultants Water Technology will also be available to talk about the investigation and answer any questions.

Twenty properties in Dunolly were flooded, power was cut and the town was isolated during the heavy rains of January 2011.

The Victorian Government provided $156,750 for the Dunolly Flood Study in 2012. The Australian Government contributed an additional $8250 through the Natural Disaster Resilience Grants Scheme.

Residents unable to attend the session are welcome to contact Leila Macadam at the North Central CMA on (03) 5440 1896.
