Have Your Say: Draft Creswick Flood Plan Released for Comment

23 Nov 2011

Following months of community consultation the draft Creswick Flood Mitigation and Urban Drainage Plan was today released for public comment.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) in partnership with the Hepburn Shire Council has coordinated the development of the draft plan and is calling for community feedback.

Mr Malcolm Brown, Chair of the Plan Steering Committee, said the community can download a copy of the draft plan from the North Central CMA’s website, www.nccma.vic.gov.au or attend a public meeting – 7.30 pm Thursday 1 December 2011 in the RSL Hall Creswick - where the draft plan will be explained.

“I encourage all interested residents to attend the public meeting where we will discuss the draft plan in further detail and present the preferred flood mitigation option for Creswick.  Community members will have the opportunity to provide feedback on the draft plan at the meeting, or afterwards up until 12 December, before it is submitted to government for consideration.”

Mr Brown is pleased with the plan’s development and said community input is vital to the success of the final plan. “Our aim is to incorporate community feedback and finalise the plan before Christmas.”

“Significant progress has been made in the plan’s development thanks largely to input from the community.   The Steering Committee continues to work closely with the Technical Working group, including flood specialists Water Technology.”

“A four-page summary of the plan is being distributed to all Creswick residences. Copies of the full draft plan are also available from the Hepburn Shire Customer Services office in Creswick, the Hepburn Flood Recovery office, Creswick Library and the North Central CMA offices in Huntly,” he said.

The draft plan is funded by the Victorian Government and has been developed following industry best practice guidelines.

Attendees for the public meeting can RSVP to North Central CMA on 5448 7124 or info@nccma.vic.gov.au by Wednesday 30 November 2011.
