Future Farming Landscapes Field Day

11 Apr 2013

A field day to learn more about the ‘Future Farming Landscapes’ project in the Lake Boga area is being held on properties managed by Kilter Pty Ltd on Thursday 16 May. A field day bus will depart from the Lake Boga Community Centre at 1.00 pm and return at 3.30 pm.

Kilter Pty Ltd, a private company that farms around 9,000 hectares of land between Kerang and Swan Hill, is managing the project.  Shawn Butters from Kilter explains, “The project is consistent with our approach to farming where revenue is raised through sustainable agricultural practices coupled with returns from enhanced ecological services.”

Hosted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA), the field day includes site visits to see firsthand sub-surface drip irrigation, gravity irrigation, direct seeding programs and an agroforestry demonstration.

Mr Joel Spry, North Central CMA project manager, said participants will also hear from Kilter’s staff including the irrigation installation team.  “We are keen for participants to talk to those who’ve installed the infrastructure on site as well as ask questions about the Future Farming Landscapes project more generally.

“Attendees are welcome to follow the bus from the Lake Boga Community Centre in their own vehicle if they need to leave early,” concluded Mr Spry.

Places are limited; please RSVP to the North Central CMA on (03) 5448 7124 or info@nccma.vic.gov.au, indicating any dietary requirements by 14 May 2013.
