Flood Debris Removal Continues in Carisbrook

10 Feb 2011

Work to remove flood debris which has accumulated and caused blockages in Tullaroop (Deep) Creek at Carisbrook has commenced.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is responding to over one hundred calls received from concerned community members across the North Central region reporting potential blockages following the January floods.

The North Central CMA is addressing these concerns in the Carisbrook area, with staff inspecting sites along the creek to assess flood debris that may be blocking the creek and coordinating removal where necessary.

Mr Damian Wells, North Central CMA Chief Executive said the Authority is working closely with Central Goldfields Shire and the Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE).

Mr Wells said, “The record rainfall and subsequent flooding has meant debris has accumulated in some waterways. This debris includes trees and branches, sand and rock, farm materials, fences and hay bales and could contribute to additional flooding into the future if we get another downpour. “

“The main focus at Carisbrook is to clear this debris from the creek where backed up or diverted water could potentially damage critical public infrastructure in the event of a future flood event.  These State Government funded works will commence on Friday 11 February between the Pyrenees Highway and Railway Bridge within the Carisbrook Township.”
