Flood Debris Removal to Commence Immediately

27 Jan 2011

In response to the recent flood event, the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) has received many calls from residents in the Castlemaine and Taradale areas, reporting flood debris in local waterways.

The North Central CMA is responding quickly, with assessment of these blockages currently in progress. The Authority is working closely with the Mount Alexander Shire and the Department of Sustainability and Environment, commencing a program to clear the highest priority sites where backed up or diverted water could potentially damage critical public assets in the event of a future flood.

Flood debris removal will commence in the week beginning Monday 31 January. Work sites include Barkers Creek and two sites along Campbells Creek (near Gaulton Street and the section downstream of the Pyrenees Highway to Cemetery Road, Campbells Creek).

Flood debris may include timber and branches, sand and rock, or farm materials – such as fences and hay bales – that are blocking the waterway as a direct result of the recent high flows experienced in most of our region’s waterways.

For further information regarding the scheduled works or to report flood debris blockages, please contact the North Central CMA on (03) 5448 7124.
