Are you interested in recreational fishing?   Would you like to know more about native fish movement in the Loddon? Then head to the ‘Fishing for the future!’ field day at the Kerang Weir fishway, Weir Road Kerang on Tuesday 8 May from 10 am-2 pm.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is hosting the free field day in conjunction with the Department of Primary Industries and the Arthur Rylah Institute. The day will be a fantastic opportunity to learn more about the Kerang Weir fishway, native fish movement and recreational fishing from native fish experts.

Jon Leevers, who manages the North Central CMA’s Loddon Stressed River project, said “This is a great chance to share knowledge and results of fish monitoring work and discuss the future of native fish populations.”

An interactive education trailer, a scale fishway model, ‘fishy’ factsheets and posters, focusing on the future of native fish in north central Victoria, will also be some of the day’s highlights.

“The Kerang Weir fishway is a very important structure as it allows fish to move past the weir, which prior to its construction, was a barrier to fish migration. Now any of the 35,000 fish tagged throughout the Murray, Broken, Goulburn and Loddon river systems, can be recognised as they move through Kerang,” said Jon Leevers.
