Final Meeting in Rochester to Discuss Flood Plan

22 Apr 2013

A third and final community meeting to discuss the Draft Rochester Flood Management Plan will be held at the Rochester Racecourse and Recreation Reserve (Four R’s) on Wednesday 1 May from 6.30 pm.

Hosted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) in conjunction with the Shire of Campaspe, the meeting will provide further details on the draft Rochester Flood Management Plan, including flood mitigation options.

Ms Sarah Stanaway, North Central CMA project officer, said that following the meeting the community will have until Friday 17 May 2013 to comment on the draft.

“The draft plan has determined flood levels and flood extents for a range of flooding scenarios and provides valuable information that will improve flood warnings and emergency response activities for Rochester.

“The plan also includes mitigation options that have the potential to reduce the impacts of flooding for Rochester. These options include improvements to flood warning infrastructure as well as structural measures.

Ms Stanaway confirmed a summary of the draft Rochester Flood Management Plan, including the flood mitigation options together with a feedback form, will be distributed to Rochester households following the meeting.

“The pack will include a pre-paid envelope addressed to the North Central CMA making it easier for residents to fill out the feedback form and post it back to us.  It is vital that Rochester residents indicate their level of support for the proposed mitigation options.

“Strong community support is important before any preferred mitigation option is submitted to government for funding,” said Ms Stanaway.

The North Central CMA and the Shire of Campaspe thank the Rochester community for their ongoing support and involvement in the development of the draft Rochester Flood Management Plan.
