Expo explores future farming options

1 Mar 2013

Farmers are invited to explore new ideas in farm management at the 2013 Future Farming Expo to be held Thursday 14 March at the Yarrawalla Hall.

Commencing at 9am and hosted by the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA), farmers will hear from a range of expert speakers in concurrent sessions and view practical demonstrations including understanding the weather, beneficial insects, soil pit demonstrations, carbon farming and edible shrubs.

Mr David Clark, North Central CMA Board Chairman, said farmers in the region are facing changes in their operating environment due to a number of factors and are increasingly seeking new information regarding their farming future.

“After months of planning the day promises to be a success.  We are fortunate to have secured a range of well known and respected speakers and presenters.  Jane Bunn, WIN News weather presenter and qualified meteorologist, will start the day with a session on the terminology and accuracy of weather forecasts.

“Darren Doherty, from HeenanDoherty, will then present his ten steps to regenerate the farm, soil community and on-farm livelihood, followed by a demonstration with tips on how to create a successful kitchen garden later in the day.”

Following the morning presentations participants can choose from four sessions running concurrently on a range of topics including seasonal climate drivers, accessing global markets, biochar, succession planning, and holistic grazing management.

“There will be a session or demonstration to suit everyone’s interest,” concluded Mr Clark.
