Environmental water release for the Loddon River

8 Nov 2013

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is coordinating the release of environmental water to the Loddon River, between Loddon Weir and Kerang Weir, commencing Wednesday 6 November 2013 for a period of up to three weeks.

The environmental water release will build to a peak of 400 megalitres per day, providing a pulse of water to the river. The release is intended to trigger fish movement, flush organic material and water riparian vegetation in the lower part of the river.

Landholders adjacent to the Loddon River may notice a rise in water level downstream of the Loddon Weir, including Twelve Mile Creek, through to Kerang.  The rise will be monitored closely and is expected to be well below the flood threshold of the river.

The environmental water release is authorised by the Victorian Environmental Water Holder in line with its Seasonal Watering Plan 2013-14.  The plan is developed in collaboration with the North Central CMA and supported by local input from the Department of Environment and Primary Industries, Goulburn-Murray Water and community representatives.
