The Waterwatch Story

Our story

The North Central Waterwatch Program aims to increase the knowledge and skills of community, supporting them to become custodians of local waterways.

We love to empower individuals to contribute to natural resource management in the north central region; therefore this program aims to engage in people to participate in river and wetland health monitoring activities.

We are committed to making sure 50% of our sites being monitored align with priority waterways by June 2020, so we can provide reliable and relevant waterway condition data to waterway managers.

We believe children are our future for all things sustainable and we want to encourage their participation in natural resource management.

Through our River Detectives program, we believe students will have the opportunity to gain an intimate knowledge and love for their local waterways through a variety of hands-on activities including regular water quality testing, salinity studies, macroinvertebrate sampling and habitat surveys.

Opportunities are priceless to increasing our knowledge of river and wetlands and the flora and fauna that make up the foundations of these precious resources.

It is important to us that we provide opportunities for people to improve their knowledge of these ecosystems in order to participate in improving the health of our region, we are committed to providing opportunities through events, field days and workshops.
