Ellen emigrated from Scotland in 1991 and lived in Melbourne until 1999, when she moved to her husband’s grain farm at Towaninnie near Wycheproof.
Originally a biology and chemistry teacher, Ellen is passionate about lifelong learning and environmental sustainability. She is also passionate about the future sustainability of rural areas and has worked in the community development field for the past 20 years.
She was first elected to the Buloke Shire council in 2008, and is now in her third term. Ellen is also a graduate and current member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
In other community leadership roles she is the Deputy Chair of the North Central Local Learning and Employment Network, the Secretary of the Womens Health Loddon Mallee and the President of the Wycheproof and District Landcare Group, and a delegate of council to a number of organisations.
As well as helping on the farm, Ellen coordinates the ResourceSmart Schools program for schools in the Loddon Mallee region.
