Putting waterways in the picture

20 Dec 2013

Victorian’s have a chance to win a houseboat getaway on the Murray River just by getting out and enjoying their local waterways this summer.

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA), in partnership with the Department of Environment and Primary Industries, is running an Instagram competition to encourage Victorians to enjoy their unique and diverse waterways.

“With a $1000 houseboat experience as the prize, it’s not surprising that the competition has attracted over 200 entries so far, and with a month to go, we are hoping more people will take up the opportunity,” said North Central CMA CEO, Damian Wells.

“Whether it’s boating, fishing, swimming, water sports or just enjoying the natural environment, the north central catchment has an abundance of waterways to explore and enjoy.”

Mr Wells said the competition, which closes end of January,  is part of the ‘Love Our Waterways’ campaign, which aims to raise awareness about our waterways and encourage the community to get involved in keeping them healthy.

“The North Central CMA has a range of ways you can get involved with improving the health of our waterways.

“From being a part of the development of our regional Waterway Strategy to joining a community group such as Landcare or becoming a Waterwatch monitor, we value and encourage local knowledge and input,” Mr Wells said.

To enter the competition simply take a picture of yourself enjoying a river, estuary or wetland in Victoria, and upload your picture to Instagram.  Don’t forget to add @depivictoria and #lovewaterways in the caption.

The competition closes on January 31 2014, so get snapping over the summer for your chance to win.
