Launch of New Natural Resource Committee

26 Nov 2007

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) today announced the start of a new era with the launch of its new Natural Resource Management Committee (NRMC).

The new committee, appointed by the Board of the North Central CMA for an initial period of 12 months, replaces the previous three Implementation Committees who have completed their tenure.

The NRMC will work closely with the North Central CMA Board to play a pivotal role in identifying natural resource management investment priorities across the north central region of Victoria as part of the CMA's Regional Catchment Strategy (RCS).

North Central CMA Chair, Dr Ian MacBean said that the establishment of the NRMC is an opportunity to reinvigorate a vital part of how the organisation connects with the communities of this region, particularly in relation to natural resource investment priorities.

"We also recognise and extend our sincere thanks to the members of the previous Implementation Committees for their valuable contribution to our organisation and the communities of this region," said Dr MacBean.

"Key to the new committee's effectiveness will be their ability to engage and capture the perspectives of the on-ground issues and ideas from the wider community, which informs our Board on natural resource investment priorities for the region".

Dr MacBean added "the committee members represent a wide and varied geographical and community base; they bring a valuable range of business and industry skills and experience to the table that will help guide us in our engagement and investment opportunities".

The Chair of the NRMC, Mr Malcolm Brown said that he and the other members were looking forward to getting down to the business of working with the Board and the community.

"The makeup of the new committee allows us to be across a variety of regional issues, ideas and importantly the attitudes of the greater north central community".

"We view our role as an important link in which the North Central CMA is provided with the best possible solutions and latest thinking from the community. This will enable the CMA to target its investment in community endorsed regional priorities for managing our region's natural resources," said Mr Brown.

Dr MacBean added that in the first 100 days the new committee's focus will be on developing a 3-year natural resource investment program with clear outcomes that link to the RCS for the CMA Board to consider.
