Environmental water delivery to the Campaspe River

8 Nov 2013

Commencing Friday 8 November 2013, the North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is planning the delivery of environmental water to the Campaspe River.   The delivery, the second in a series of two winter/ spring environmental water releases, is intended to benefit native fish, bank vegetation, water quality and habitat for macroinvertebrates.

Goulburn-Murray Water will release the environmental water downstream of Lake Eppalock, ramping up to an approximate maximum of 1,500 ML per day for four consecutive days. The total volume of water released will be approximately 10,000 ML.

The release will flow for up to 14 days and will not impact towns along the Campaspe River.  Landholders adjacent to the river, local residents and visitors may notice a change in water flow and appearance, and a rise in the water level up to 1.6 metres from the winter base flow.   The flow will be contained well within bank capacity as it passes to the junction of the Murray River.

The environmental water release is authorised by the Victorian Environmental Water Holder in line with its Seasonal Watering Plan 2013-14.
