Dig in to our grazing masterclass

14 Aug 2017

Expressions of interest are now open for a one-day Grazing Masterclass workshop for managers of livestock or mixed farming operations.

Grazing management can help farmers build confidence in regenerating their soil and pasture health which supports profit in times of increased climate variation.

Cattle farmer and consultant Graeme Hand will present the 12 September course, which will be discounted to $60 and prioritised for farmers in the North Central Catchment Management Authority area.

“The course will cover a range of topics including how to set up a grazing management demonstration site, perennial pasture species identification and measuring changes in nutrient cycling, water infiltration and stability of your soil,” North Central CMA Regional Landcare Facilitator Darren Bain said.

“It will also look at how to manage key soil health processes to improve soil condition and increase farm resilience, and increasing profitability while lowering risk.

“Once you have completed the workshop and set up your grazing management demonstration site, you can expect to understand the grazing impact on your pasture and the recovery time before it can be grazed again. Knowing when to shift stock from the paddock and when to bring them back is critical for good pasture and stock management”.

A location of the class will be determined after the EOIs close on 18 August.

This project is supported by the North Central CMA, through funding from the Australian Government’s National Landcare Programme.
