Community Invited to Comment on Catchment Action Plan

11 Sep 2007

The North Central Catchment Management Authority (CMA) is inviting public comment on its recently released Draft Upper Avoca Catchment Action Plan.

North Central CMA Project Manager, Megan Kreutzer stated that "the Upper Avoca Catchment Action Plan provides a detailed list of on-ground actions for priority waterway reaches along the Avoca River, from Amphitheatre through to Charlton, for the next three to five years".

"The purpose of this plan is to build on the strategies, knowledge and reports that have previously been undertaken in the area and to targeted on-ground works to improve Catchment health," said Megan.

"The upper Avoca represents an important catchment area for the north central Victorian region. Our river health projects have a long, proud and successful association with communities in managing and protecting these important areas and there unique flora and fauna".

"The local knowledge and input we have gained so far through community meetings in Avoca and St. Arnaud have proven invaluable in getting the Plan to this stage".

Megan added "that on e of the key objectives is to deliver a community friendly and practical action plan that can be used by groups such as Landcare, as well as individuals for the development of environmental works funding proposals".

"We'd like to hear from community members interested in environmental management issues; we certainly welcome their thoughts, ideas and concerns on this particular plan to make sure we get the best on-ground outcomes possible".
