Welcome to the North Central Catchment Management Authority

Our organisation is the lead agency in north central Victoria coordinating and monitoring natural resource management programs for the region. We do this with a focus on managing and protecting our region's diverse environmental assets for the communities of north central Victoria.

The region is bordered by the River Murray to the north, the Great Dividing Range and Wombat State Forest to the south and Mt Camel Range to the east.

It's an area that covers around 30,000 km² (about 13 percent of Victoria) and is home to an abundance of diverse natural attractions from forested national parks to waterfalls, gorges and slowly meandering waterways and to a teeming assortment of flora and fauna, some of which are found nowhere else.

The North Central CMA recently held nine community meetings to find out about the region's most valued environmental assets.

At the meetings, people identified the environmental features they consider to be the most important in their local area.

This information will be used to develop an inventory of environmental assets that the region will prioritise for protection through the six-year Regional Catchment Strategy, which is currently being renewed.

There is still an opportunity to nominate environmental assets that are important to you.

Bushfire Recovery Freehold grants - Now Open

In partnership with the Australian Government's Caring for our Country Bushfire Recovery Program, the North Central CMA is currently seeking applications from individuals and registered community organisations to implement activities that assist in the protection and restoration of natural assets affected by the February fires in this region.

There is $217,000 in grants available to landholders and community groups in the fire-affected areas of Bendigo, Redesdale and Daylesford regions only.
