One of the most critical and practical ways of maintaining and improving land and water health is to maintain and improve Native Vegetation. The overall aim of this continuing project is to increase the extent and condition of native vegetation across the landscape. The project will develop strategic mechanisms and facilitate investment to increase the quality and quantity of native vegetation across the landscape of the North Central catchment. It will achieve multiple outcomes eg. biodiversity Improvements, land and water resource protection, greenhouse gas sequestration and economic options for land-use change. The program will do this through building and enhancing key partnerships and community engagement.

This project is essential to ensure coordination between the RCS objectives and Local Government Authorities (LGA) management activities. Roadside vegetation often constitutes the only native vegetation remaining in the landscape and provides vital networks and linkages through the landscape. The project will develop capacity and knowledge in Local Government in relation to roadside vegetation management specifically, and NRM more generally. The project aims to: - develop a RMPs for 1 Shire - consistent formats to mapping (this provides the baseline data and the reporting system underpinning LGAs' auditing of roadside environmental performance) - implement training of Shire works crew to enable best practice, and assist Shires where possible to implement roadside conservation programs (i.e. community education) - Also develop a community roadside management handbook and a environmental code of practice handbook for Shire distribution
The major natural resource management problems in North Central Victoria, (salinity, waterway health, soil conservation and biodiversity decline) problems are all addressed through re-establishment, protection, and improved management of native vegetation. To achieve our Regional Catchment Strategy's Resource Condition Targets will require significant increases to our current on-ground achievements. Even at current levels of investment, on-ground works frequently are not implemented to meet best or current management expectations. This project aims to aims to remedy lack of technical skills and develop a system for monitoring results of investments in native vegetation management and revegetation.
Provides grants of up to $10,000 to community groups, from the State's Victorian Action Plan for Second Generation Landcare. These grants assist community group projects that integrate salinity mitigation, pest plant and animal control, native vegetation improvement and protection, Landcare support, Junior Landcare activities and community education activities.

Lower Loddon and Campaspe  |
This project delivers incentives for revegetation and remnant vegetation protection. Revegetation across the region is targeted towards linking existing key habitat areas listed within the Loddon Campaspe Irrigation Region Biodiversity Action Plan. The focus is to; secure existing high value remnant vegetation through a range of activities (legal agreements and fencing), promote best practice native vegetation management, and establish techniques that improve the condition of biodiversity, soil and water (including areas affected by salinity and poor water quality) across the region. Native vegetation provides low cost or free ecosystem services such as protection from land degradation, the scourge of salinity, clean air and water. The project also: - supports the Northern Plains Grassland CMN - delivers outcomes for protecting threatened flora and fauna species - foster strong relationships between DPI, NCCMA, DSE, Parks Vic, and Trust for Nature, Landcare groups and the community

Upper Loddon and Campaspe  |
The aim of this project is to protect, enhance and rebuild the native vegetation assets of the Riverina Bioregion. Native vegetation is important for the health of the land and water, the flora and fauna, and the people of North Central Victoria. The project will promote best practice native vegetation management and establishment techniques that aim to improve the condition of biodiversity, soil and water (including areas affected by salinity and poor water quality) across the region. Native vegetation provides low cost or free ecosystem services such as protection from land degradation, particularly the scourge of salinity, clean air and water and pest control. In addressing some of these threats, the project will seek to: - protect existing remnant vegetation through a range of activities (legal agreements and fencing) - manage and enhance existing remnants - carry out large scale revegetation - implement activities listed under Recovery Plans for 3 Nationally threatened species

The aim of this project is to protect, enhance and rebuild the native vegetation assets of the Goldfields Bioregion. Native vegetation is important for the health of the land and water, the flora and fauna, and the people of North Central Victoria. The project will promote: best practice native vegetation management and establishment techniques to improve the condition of biodiversity, soil and water (including areas affected by salinity and poor water quality) across the region. Native vegetation provides low cost or free ecosystem services such as protection from land degradation, particularly the scourge of salinity, clean air and water and pest control. In addressing some of these threats, the project will seek to: - protect existing remnant vegetation through a range of activities (legal agreements and fencing) - manage and enhance existing remnants - carry out large scale revegetation - implement activities listed under Recovery Plans for 16 Nationally threatened species

The project will implement activities listed under Recovery Plans for 4 Nationally listed threatened species under the National Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999, as well as a suit of Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act listed species. Activities implemented include: - protection and threat management - population surveys (assess population trends) - increasing knowledge of biology and ecology - assessment of known and potential threats - actions to increase community awareness
