The North Central Waterwatch program has been active
since 1993. From Wycheproof to Woodend, Cohuna to
Creswick and Swan Hill to Echuca, Waterwatch works
with volunteers across the region to monitor the health of
our waterways.

Australian smelt is a native Australian fish. It is a
small slender fish with large eyes and a slightly
rounded mouth.

The Flathead Gudgeon is a native Australian species. It
has a broad and flat head with a large mouth.

Golden Perch are native to Australia. They are a moderately
large fish, oval in shape and laterally compressed.

The Mountain Galaxias is native to Australia. It is a
small and stout fish with a small head blunt snout,
and small, thick, fleshy fins.

River Blackfish are native to Australia. They are elongate
and have quite a slender body, with jugular pelvic
fins, a single long-based dorsal fin, tiny scales and a
well developed lateral line.

Silver Perch is endemic (native) to Australia. It is a
moderately elongate fish with a small head and eyes.

The Southern Pygmy Perch is a native species to Australia.
This fish has a moderately compressed body
with a small mouth and large eyes.

The Western Carp Gudgeon is native to Australia.
They are a small fish with a slender body form which is
laterally compressed.

Carp is native to Central Asia, but has been introduced
to many regions of the world including
Europe, North America, the Middle East, Canada
and Australia.
