The North Central Waterwatch program has been active since 1993. From Wycheproof to Woodend, Cohuna to Creswick and Swan Hill to Echuca, Waterwatch works with volunteers across the region to monitor the health of our waterways. Waterwatch participants include community groups such as Landcare, individuals and schools with a commitment to learning about and improving the water quality and river health in North Central Victoria. With a range of water quality monitoring, habitat assessment and biodiversity monitoring activities to participate in, North Central Waterwatch has something for everyone!

River Detectives

Traditionally, many schools in the North Central region have monitored in an ad hoc and infrequent nature. Due to constraints in facilitator time and an increased focus on the collection of consistent and reliable Waterwatch data from the regional and state level, North Central Waterwatch developed the River Detectives program (adapted from the 'Catchment Capers' model used by Goulburn Broken Waterwatch). By incorporating monitoring activities into the school curriculum, the River Detectives Program helps to ensure schools submit regular data and use equipment purchased by North Central Waterwatch to monitor waterway health.
